Background Location

Important system limitation

Force-quitting on iPhone or force-stopping on Android can prevent background location and notification work until IslamTools is opened again. The operating system may also delay updates to save battery.

iPhone and iPad checklist

  • Update IslamTools from the App Store and confirm the app shows version 2.0.2 or newer.
  • Open iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → IslamTools. Choose Always and turn Precise Location on.
  • Open iOS Settings → General → Background App Refresh. Enable it globally and for IslamTools. Turn Low Power Mode off while testing.
  • Do not swipe IslamTools away from the app switcher while testing. After a force-quit, phone restart, app update or permission change, open IslamTools once.
  • After travelling, open IslamTools and confirm the displayed city under Settings → Prayer → Location. Select the current location again or use a manual location if needed.
  • Open the in-app Diagnostics screen when it is available and choose Reschedule prayer notifications. If that control is not shown, toggle the affected prayer alert off and on, then reopen the app.

Android checklist

  • Update IslamTools from Google Play and confirm the app shows version 2.0.2 or newer.
  • Open Android Settings → Apps → IslamTools → Permissions → Location. Choose Allow all the time and enable precise location where offered.
  • Under IslamTools battery settings, choose Unrestricted or Don't optimize. Allow background activity and, on phones that provide it, enable Auto-start.
  • Do not use Force stop while expecting background updates. After a force-stop, phone restart, app update or permission change, open IslamTools once.
  • After travelling, reopen IslamTools, confirm the city under Settings → Prayer → Location and select the current or a manual location if necessary.
  • Run Reschedule prayer notifications from Diagnostics when available. Android labels vary by manufacturer, so also review any Sleeping apps or Background usage limits screen.

Prayer Times Look Wrong

Confirm the location first

Check the city shown in IslamTools. If you recently travelled or the city is wrong, refresh the current location or choose a manual location before changing calculation settings.

Match the calculation method you follow

IslamTools provides 12 methods. In Settings → Prayer, compare the selected method, high-latitude behavior, later-Asr option and time zone with your mosque or local authority.

Review manual offsets

Remove old per-prayer offsets before diagnosing a larger difference. Fixed mosque timetables can still differ from astronomical calculations, so use small offsets only when you understand the local schedule.

Prayer Notifications

Check system permission and sound controls

Allow notifications for IslamTools in system settings. Review Focus or Do Not Disturb, alert and sound settings, and Time Sensitive access on supported iPhones. On Android, review IslamTools notification categories and battery restrictions.

Check the prayer alert configuration

In IslamTools Settings, open Prayer time alerts and confirm the intended prayers are selected, alerts are enabled and one of the 2 available adhan options is selected.

Rebuild the schedule after a change

After changing location, calculation method, prayer offsets, time zone or notification permission, use Reschedule prayer notifications in Diagnostics when available. Reopen IslamTools once if the phone was restarted or the app was force-quit or force-stopped.

Quran Audio Downloads

Download a recitation for offline listening

Open IslamTools Settings → Quran → Offline audio, choose a reciter, review the size estimate and start the download. Downloads run while IslamTools is open, so keep the app in the foreground until it finishes.

If a download pauses or fails

Check available storage and your Wi-Fi or mobile-data connection, keep IslamTools open and try again. Streaming, first-time Quran content, tafseer and other connected content still require internet unless already cached or downloaded.

Live Activity & Privacy

Live Activity is optional and iOS-only

When enabled, it sends anonymous installation and delivery tokens, a location label, locale and a locally computed seven-day prayer schedule so iOS can receive countdown updates. It does not send separate latitude or longitude fields.

What happens when it is disabled?

Disabling Live Activity marks the backend record inactive and stops future Live Activity pushes. It does not immediately delete retained backend rows. Read the Privacy Policy or email support@islamtools.com with a privacy question.

Send a Useful Bug Report

Include enough detail to reproduce the issue

  • IslamTools version and build number from Settings, plus the device model and iOS or Android version.
  • City, country and time zone; say whether location is automatic or manual and which location permission you granted.
  • Prayer calculation method, later-Asr choice, manual offsets and the prayer or date affected.
  • What you expected, what happened, and the exact sequence of taps or travel event that preceded it.
  • Notification and battery settings, whether the app was force-quit or force-stopped, and any Diagnostics results.
  • A screenshot or short screen recording when useful. Do not email exact coordinates or other sensitive information unless you choose to.

Why does my location only refresh when I open IslamTools?

Background updates depend on OS permission and scheduling. Give IslamTools Always/Allow all the time and precise location access, allow background activity, avoid force-quitting or force-stopping the app, then reopen it once after changing permissions or after travel.

What should I do after travelling?

Open IslamTools once so it can refresh the saved location, prayer schedule, widgets and notifications. Then confirm the displayed city and calculation method; use a manual location if the operating system has not delivered the move yet.

Why are prayer notifications missing?

Enable notifications in system settings, check Focus or Do Not Disturb and sound settings, confirm the intended prayers are enabled inside IslamTools, then use Reschedule prayer notifications in Diagnostics when that screen is available.

How do I download Quran audio for offline use?
